Hi, I'm Scott. Let's make this less formal.
Companies offering strategy and growth always try to flex the size of their team or the amount of money they've managed. I fell into this trap. Even on this website, I say 'let us work with you' when in reality, it's just me.
I'll be transparent: my goal is to talk with every company interested in growth. The majority of these companies and funds won't be clients, but I believe in the karma of providing feedback to anyone interested. It's why I created and taught the popular MBA class on growth at Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management. Now, as a one-man show, I have to limit my work to select companies. Here's what I mean by that:
I engage when I am 100% confident that it will be a win-win for both parties. This means that after we talk, I am certain that I can improve your growth efforts, often significantly. Perhaps the agency has suggested spending way too much and you can get the same results for half the price… or the CMO talks the talk but the numbers haven't improved. One time I was engaged by a company days before an agency, who's fees were a percent of spend, recommended they spend $10,000 per day on google display. That would have been a disaster and possibly bankrupted the company while lining the agency's pockets. I dealt with that the days leading up to my wedding. Bad growth advice drives me nuts.
